Breast lift, also known as mastopexy, is a surgical method that helps lift the breasts by removing excess skin and other tissue that causes your breasts to sag. In this procedure, if the breasts are large, the excess breast tissue is removed, and if they are small, they are supported with silicone prostheses. If the size is normal, only the excess skin that causes sagging is removed. Breast lift surgery is performed under general anesthesia and in the operating room environment.
Lifting surgeries do not prevent pregnancy, childbearing and breastfeeding.
Before breast lift surgery, blood thinners should be stopped or changed for a certain period of time under the supervision of a doctor. If you have high blood pressure and diabetes, medications should be used regularly. Vitamins and similar drugs, which are considered as nutritional supplements, should be discontinued 1 month in advance. Smoking should be completely stopped. Because it will adversely affect the vessels of the nipple, which impairs wound healing.
Before breast surgery, it is normal to question the patient's family history of breast diseases. Breast cancer occurs in 1 in 8 women in the world, and many of them show up during routine screening. Therefore, if it has not been done in the recent past like 3 months; It is important to have breast ultrasound in patients under the age of 40 without a family history, and ultrasound and, if necessary, mammography in patients over the age of 40. If there is a suspicious appearance, it is possible to simultaneously remove the suspicious one and perform breast lift surgery in the same session. If there is a family history, the choice of imaging will be made by the physician.
Breast lift surgery is performed with general anesthesia. In breast lift surgery, inverted “T” or vertical scar, in other words “lollipop” incisions, are used surgically. Surgical incisions in the breast usually do not leave much scarring, but if a person's wound healing is slow and poor, they may remain in the form of red lines. Drains can be inserted into both breasts to drain the blood and tissue fluid that may accumulate inside after breast lift surgery. After the surgery, a bra and corset should be used over the dressings.
After Breast Lift Surgery;
Post-surgery is usually comfortable. If a drain was placed during the surgery, it is not recommended to take a shower without pulling it out. Dressing change frequency is usually every 2-3 days. Bra and corset should be worn for 1 month after the operation. After the dressings are completely left, scar creams are started to be used within the first 1 month depending on the condition of the incisions. Light exercises such as walking can be started at the end of the 1st week, but it is appropriate to start gymnastics and gymnastics after 1 month. Postoperative controls are routinely performed at the end of the 1st – 3rd – 6th months. In case of any negativity, a doctor can also be consulted.
