Breast Augmentation

Breast Augmentation

It is quite common for women to want changes in the size of their breasts. Women with small breasts can enlarge their breasts with breast implants, or women who have a slight sagging in their breasts due to aging or pregnancy can slightly lift their breasts with breast prostheses. In breast augmentation surgeries, a planning is made by considering the existing breast tissue, shape, dimensions of the patient and the size that the patient wants to achieve. Augmentation surgeries do not prevent pregnancy, childbearing and breastfeeding.

Before Breast Augmentation Surgery

Before breast augmentation surgeries, blood thinners, if used, should be discontinued or changed for a certain period of time under the supervision of a doctor. If you have high blood pressure and diabetes, medications should be used regularly. Vitamins and similar drugs, which are considered as nutritional supplements, should be discontinued 1 month in advance. Smoking should be completely stopped.

Before breast surgery, the patient's family history of breast diseases should be questioned. Breast cancer occurs in 1 in 8 women in the world, and many of them show up during routine screening. Therefore, if it has not been done in the recent past like 3 months; Breast ultrasound in patients under the age of 40 without a family history, ultrasound and, if necessary, mammography in patients over the age of 40 are important. If there is a suspicious appearance, it is possible to simultaneously remove the suspicious area and perform breast augmentation surgery in the same session. If there is a family history, the choice of imaging will be made by the physician.

Breast Augmentation Surgery

The operation is performed in the operating room under general anesthesia in hospital conditions. A 4-5 cm incision is made for the prosthesis to be placed. The frequently recommended incision site is the groove under the breast. An incision can also be made under the nipple and armpit. Implants to be placed on the breast are of 2 types in shape.

-Drop (anatomical)

-Round

Anatomical implants are preferred by women who want a more natural look. The preoperative appearance of the breast is also important in determining this preference. Round implants allow the area we call the upper décolleté to be fuller. The shape and size of the implant is decided during the examination. Whether anatomical or round, implants are placed in the breast either under the mammary gland or under the pectoral muscle, which we call the pectoral muscle. In cases where the skin is thin and natural appearance is expected, the submuscular plan should be preferred. Drains can be inserted into both breasts to drain the blood and tissue fluid that may accumulate inside after breast augmentation surgery. After the surgery, a bra and corset should be used over the dressings.

After Breast Augmentation Surgery;
It is usually comfortable after breast augmentation surgery. If a drain is placed in the surgery, it is usually removed the next day. It is not recommended to take a shower without removing the drain. Dressing change frequency is usually every 2-3 days. Bra and corset should be worn for 1 month after the operation. After the dressings are completely left, scar creams are started to be used within the first 1 month depending on the condition of the incisions. Light exercises such as walking can be started at the end of the 1st week, but it is appropriate to start gymnastics and gymnastics after 1 month. Postoperative controls are routinely performed at the end of the 1st – 3rd – 6th months. In case of any negativity, a doctor can also be consulted.
